Silk Pin Capital helps foundations and institutional investors align their capital with their mission, moving from intention to a structured, strategic investment strategy. Whether an organization is beginning to explore impact investing or looking to deepen an existing approach, Silk Pin Capital meets them where they are and guides them toward strategic capital allocation.
Silk Pin Capital is led by Jory Cohen, the architect behind the first institutional 100% impact portfolio in Canada, a portfolio composed exclusively of impact investments across public and private asset classes. Under Jory’s leadership, this portfolio generated measurable social and environmental outcomes while outperforming traditional financial benchmarks over a decade, challenging the assumption that impact investing requires sacrificing returns.
How We Work
At Silk Pin Capital, every engagement begins with understanding an asset owner’s current state and future ambitions, followed by a tailored support plan to strengthen investment strategy, bolster confidence in the decision-making process, and fulfill impact investing aspirations.
Support for impact investing portfolios is provided across the full investment lifecycle, including: aligning investment frameworks with organizational missions, setting portfolio-level targets, identifying investment opportunities, conducting analysis and due diligence, oversight and reporting, and value-add coordination.
Silk Pin Capital works on a project or retainer basis, tailoring each engagement to the priorities and ambitions of the asset owner.
The Story Behind The Name
Jory’s great-grandmother, Dora, came to Canada as a teenager. Having fled famine and persecution, she became a seamstress to help support her family. Using silk pins—fine needles for sewing delicate materials—Dora created handmade clothing with care and precision, leaving no trace of pinpricks in the precious fabrics.
Inspired by Dora, Silk Pin Capital believes capital allocation should be made with the same care and precision, with guiding values woven into the fabric of every investment decision.
Jory Cohen
Jory is one of Canada’s most recognized voices in impact investing. He has shared his expertise at the United Nations Forum in Geneva and written on the subject for publications like The Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star.
At Inspirit Foundation, Jory designed and implemented what is believed to be the first institutional portfolio in the country invested entirely for impact. It is also the first known portfolio of its kind to financially outperform conventional benchmarks for more than a decade. He has also led an impact investing fund supporting young entrepreneurs.
Jory holds an HBA from the Ivey Business School at Western University, where he graduated as class valedictorian.
